Introduction

ACSS/TW is available in equal area and equal diameter constructions. Steel core wires are protected from corrosion by aluminum-clad or zinc-5% aluminum mischmetal alloy coating. Standard, High, Extra and Ultra high Strength steel are also available. All ACSS products are available in a non-specular finish.

Shaped Wire Compact Concentric-Lay-Stranded Aluminum Conductor, Steel-Supported (ACSS/TW) is a concentrically stranded conductor with one or more layers of trapezoidal shaped hard drawn and annealed 1350-0 aluminum wires on a central core of steel. Compared with the traditional ACSR conductorl of the same sectional area, ACSS/TW has smaller resistance and diameter. Besides, it can also increase the working temperature of power transmission lines.

Construction

Conductor: annealed 1350 aluminum with a conductivity of 63% IACS

Shape of aluminum wire: trapezoid

Sectional area: 240~1100mm2

Reinforced core: high tensile steel wire

Working temperature: 150°c

Standard packing length: 2500 meters

Construction:ACSS is composed out of annealed 1350-0 aluminum wires, surrounding a galvanized steel core or aluminum clad steel core.

Applications:ACSS is recommended for use for high temperature lines mainly when reconductoring is done over an existing line construction. In this case same tensions and loads are applied over the line but higher currents can be transferred.

Conductor Properties:ACSS can operate in high temperatures up to 250deg C, it has high conductivity therefore, it sags less and has self damping properties if pre stretched along installation. ACSS has low tensile strength and it''s aluminum wires are considered as they contribute almost nothing to the conductor tensile strength.

ACSS conductor meets or exceeds the following ASTM specifications:

• B341 Aluminum-Coated Steel Core Wire for Aluminum Conductors, Steel Reinforced.

• B500 Metallic Coated Stranded Steel Core For Aluminum Conductors, Steel Reinforced.

• B609 Aluminum 1350 Round Wire, Annealed and Intermediate Tempers, for Electrical Purposes.

• B802 Zinc-5% Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy-Coated Steel Core Wire for Aluminum Conductors, Steel Reinforced.

• B803 High-Strength Zinc-5% Aluminum-Mischmetal Alloy-Coated Steel Core Wire for Aluminum and Aluminum-Alloy Conductors, Steel Reinforced.

• B856 Concentric-Lay-Stranded Aluminum
